bailey![]() Small Fry Posts: 14 Kudos: 6 Votes: 0 Registered: 29-Feb-2004 ![]() | I have a 44 gal tank (fresh water) and just recently I started getting a brown algea growing on everything and qickly. I did just about a 50 percent water change and threw away some of the decorations. Now three weeks later the brownish gold stuff is back and growing quickly. Any ideas on what to do and how to get rid of it? Thanks]:| |

How much light do you have & how many hours do you have the lights on?. How long has the tank been established? http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

There is a window next to it and it only gets sun for about a half an hour in the morning (early). It's always been located in the same place. I don't turn the light on as much anymore. In the past when it was nice to look at, I had it on for about 8 hours. Thanks |

It can also be caused by overfeeding & by overstocking. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

I've seen that leaving the lights on longer would help to get rid of it. I thinked that it helped when I did that. |
bailey![]() Small Fry Posts: 14 Kudos: 6 Votes: 0 Registered: 29-Feb-2004 ![]() | Like I said it's just recently been a problem. I had that problem start with my 5 gal and I finally took it down because I couldn't keep it clear (the walls). I don't have that many fish in there. I feed once a day minimumly. Prior to this it's been crystal clear. So any more help would be greatly appreciated. I was going to clean the tank again tomorrow but I don't want to do it until I get some more info from you guys. Thanks |

You just have to experiment with how much light you're going to have & how much hours. Water changes might help to solve the problem aswell. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |
bailey![]() Small Fry Posts: 14 Kudos: 6 Votes: 0 Registered: 29-Feb-2004 ![]() | well, I did leave the light on all last night so I'll start there. And change the water again today. If any one else has any more input please, I would like to hear from you. Like I said I had to get rid of the little one because the problem wasn't going away. Thank you. ![]() |
