if something shorted out, the shock would probably be greatly reduced depending on how big the tank was.

Like, if you had a 5 gallon tank, yea, that this is gonna shock you pretty bad, but if you have a 1000 gallon tank, when you put your hand in the water, you would just feel little "tingles"

I guess i can vouch for that, since i got shocked when i was little by sticking a knife in the outlet.

When maintaining my tank I switch everything of best to be safe than sorry I think. Its such a big tank that it would take a long time for the temp to alter anyway.

I have everything plugged into a surge protector that I do always turn off before I do an tank maintenance. I've never really thought about taking the extra step and unplugging it from the wall outlet. Though I guess it would be a good idea to start.

Voted for: I unpluf/turn off some things

When the 55g gets a WC I unplug the heaters only. I saw racso pop a heater once while reaquascaping, and that was enough convincing for me

When I'm cleaning the betta tanks, I unplug the filters so I can carry the tanks to the laundry room and go to work.

Sometimes.

It depends on the water level.

First thing to go off is the heater and then cannister filters if I really need to.

Guilty - most of the time everything is on. Very close to electrocution in the early days before getting the hang of things!

Everything is running...including the heater that blew me across the room when it shocked me so hard...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.
