Danio choprae

I almost listed this one too. I was lucky enough to be one of the first to bring this fish to the US about 3-4 years ago. Being a danio, I was not sure of really wanting it, but I said what the heck and took them. Much to my surprise, I was very impressed with these fish. So I bred the heck out of them. Back then I was getting upwards of $40 per fish for the fry! But, as easily as they were to breed (like all other danios), Soon they came down in the $5 each range.

This is kind of the example I was stating about where you are located and how rare a fish is. Because around my area, it is flooded with these fish now. They are in most every lfs now. But, many areas of the US have yet to see them. As many parts of the world have yet to see them as well.

Acidrain, there are ptobably lots of Channa bleheri in the US...ban aside, they were not terriblyy uncommon just a couple of years back, and they breed like rabbits.

I have had this lonely guy now for about 5 years. A couple of years back is when I was trying everything to breed them. The only info available back then was one breeder's report. And snakeheads.org still only lists that one breeder's report. Mine never did anything, as I wished very hard that they would have. I had offers of $50 US for each 1 month old fry, and that was from several of my wholesalers. But I never got anything from them. Now my gauchuas, yes I made a small mint off of them, actually doubled the size of my total water quanity in my fish room, and re-did part of the fish room. I only have one now, and no chance of getting another, so my breeding of them is non-existant now, lol. Oh well, the thrill was there for a few years though.

My most rare are probably the Polypterus retropinnis lowei, Polycentropsis abbrieviata, Ctenopoma congicum, Ctenopoma fasciolatum, and some of the odd locale killies.

probably the altolamprologus calvus i'm gonna pick up tomorrow.

Although in general they aren't rare, Calvus are impossible to find where I am and after searching for ages i've finally found some. Before this i've only ever seen one 5cm calvus and it was a fortune.

To my knowledge, I am the only aquarist in the United States to possess the following species of freshwater shrimp (personally collected in Puerto Rico): Atya lanipes, Macrobrachium acanthurus, undetermined Palaemonetes sp. (assuredly not P. paludosus, P. kadiakensis, or the like), and Xiphocaris elongata.

Same... Every LFS here has them as well. They are actually more common than zebra danios here and sell for $1.99.

But I know that most of the US has never even heard of Danio choprae (Glowlight Danio), which is why I listed it.

Just out of curiosity does anyone have a rare fish wich is hard to find or got an expensive fish cheap???

The rarest fish i've got is agassizii dwarf cichlids, it took me 6 months looking around lfs for them. I was so pleased when I got them

I also got a 15cm/6" black ghost knife fish fo $20 aus
but it costs me in fish food

I should stop bragging but Im so happy!

for rare:

I've had Neolampralogu pulcher before they became popular and hybred and confused with N. brichardi.

My store sells Agassizi.

I got a double red Cacatuoides.

I have an Electric Blue Lobster (blue crayfish).

A true Julii cory (used to be 3 but only 1 survived)

a PURE WHITE Angelfish (not blushing, not koi, not albino)

for cheap:

Electric blue lobster $10 (usually $25+ here)

4 Discus for $21 total (iow, $5.25 each)

I suppose some of my shelldwellers are considered a bit uncommon, but rare's a pretty subjective word. To the shelldweller fancier, L. hecqui is easy to track down and therefore not rare. To someone who's not, it's a cichlid they'd never see in stores (well, OK, I bought mine in a store, but it's a very cool store) and wouldn't know where to get. It's all relative.

I've only got two fish right now. I got a 6" Royal Plec for $30 (which is pretty good, at least around here) and a Mudskipper for $8.
