Hello all. About 2 months ago, i bout 2 new australian rainbows to add to the group of three i already had. The 2 new ones caught fungus and i started to treat the tank with meds. The new fish died and my java ferns shed all of their leaves. A week after i started to filter the meds out, i noticed around 20 small globular red things on the rhizome of my one java fern. They dissappeared a week later. The fish are zebra danioes, australian rainbows, khuli loaches and otocinclus. What are the red things?

Could have been new shoots of rhiozome attempting to grow, but then getting the kaibosh put on them from the meds, dying and getting soft. None of those fish i know of have red eggs.

Got photos of this phenomenon?

Only usually, when I hear people talking about round appendages on Java Ferns, they appear on the undersides of the leaves, and are in fact spore-bearing reproductive organs. My Java Ferns produce these regularly, along with enough biomass of new plants to allow me to be a supplier to my LFS!

Java fern doesn't grow fast. It's one of the slowest plants despite tank conditions but higher light and co2 would increase growth a little.

A lot of rainbowfish eggs are quite orangey -red, they often stick to what they land on. You might have just got lucky. They could equally be reproductive buds on java. Can you post a pic?

Sorry, no digital camera. Plus, this happened a couple of months ago. Are rainbows egges smaller than a grain of salt?
