Another possibility that hasn't been mentioned would be Black-skirt Tetras. They're not the tightest schoolers, but they're pretty nice tetras too...

Ok so black tetras are out because of the nipping and neon tetras are out because of the natural prey thing. Thanks for the information. I think I will go with the harlequin hasboras and maybe 3 platies.

Neon tetras are angels' natural prey, so they have a tendency to get eaten. I wouldn't go with them...

I heard that angels like to eat neons. My angels are small about the size of a quarter now but what about later when they get bigger?

I thought I read somewhere that black tetras nip. So it looks like the rasboras are the winners. Has anyone kept platies before?

Yep, Harlequins it is. They not only look nice but very hardy to boot. Had a small school in with my two dwarf blue gouramis for a long time and got along very well.

Platies aren't really schooling fish. You would be better off sticking with the rummy nose or harlequins.

I recommend harlequins as well. Peaceful, nice colors, and very good schoolers.

most kinds of tetras work well. I'd suggest harleqiun rasboras, though. They are less nippy than some of the bigger tetras and will not get eaten, like neons.

What kind of gouramis are they?
