Lost our air conditioning yesterday. Inside temp has been ~90° ever since. I have fans going, windows open, tank hoods open or propped open, tank lights off. My 6g hybrid fry tank in the kitchen shows a water temp of 89° I don't want to check the others since there's nothing I can do at this point but wait for maintenance to get this resolved

I don't feel like eating in this heat, but should I still feed the fish? I don't know if it makes a difference or not, I'm just trying to take every precaution I can to minimize fish loss

I personally would not feed them, or at least feed them very little. They are under enough stress now. I think I would do everything I could to lower their stress. hopefully mainenance will fix the air very soon. maybe add a chiller?

Do remember that your fish's metabolic processes will be sped up due to the warmer water. Your fish will become hungrier faster, and hungry fish want food ASAP. At least, that's what they'd tell you. I'd feed them, maybe give them some treats to make the heat more bearable. Frozen stuff should work well. I don't really see how feeding fish would stress them out, unless they all fought over the food.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Thanks...I feel so badly and want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. I'm going to thaw some bloodworms for them, those are definitely a big treat

Yes, the fish need to eat more if the tempereature is high & their metabolisim works more. If possible feed them & hopefully the AC will work soon.

is 90 hot enough to kill them?
it is quite a regular temp. here, and the fish do fine.

i don't think fish suffer from heat like us. they're cold-blood while we're hot-blood.
they enjoy stronger bodily functions while we have to get rid of the excess heat. that's why we have to stop producing more of it while them might not have the same problem (to a point, which should be higher than 90F).

i assume this to be true because it makes sense to me. does anyone actually know enough fish metabolism to support or refute?

Finally back to normal. Because of bee's nests on the roof the repairs weren't completed until later in the afternoon though.

I was mostly concerned about lower temp trops, like WCMMs...I lost a few of them. Older fish too, including one of my first platies

Very upsetting when things like this happen that you have no control over and can't do much about

Something from my perspective.... I fish a lot and I know that a lot of fish wont feed when it gets really hot. They like to hide in the shade and don't really come out until night time. This is just from what I have noticed...
