I'm so sad. Yestrday I left for work at about 7.30am with better half. When we got home at 4pm we had run out of electricity & my 125g had gone without air, filter or heat since about 8.30 that morning :-(

So I had to flush my pair of red tailed sharks, my peacock chilid, dolphin chiclid, two black ruby barbs and my armours shrimp :-(

I'm gutted, miffed, and everything inbetween.

So sad - the look on my peacocks face - he had obviousy died gasping for air...

Man, that's no fun

Ckk-- Azoo, Penn Plax and Hagen all make battery operated pumps for when the power goes out Check your LFS. If they don't have them, you can order one pretty easily either through them or online.

Yes, the battery operated back up pumps are wonderful - saved my fish during the last hurricane.
I found mine at PetsMart for about $15.00 each.

That is very sad, and shocking too.

In just 9 hours without power all these fish died?

I had a power outage on a 29G last April for about 15 hours and the tank temp fell to about 65F (from 80F). Not one of the fish died.

Makes me very confused that this could have happened in a tank that, based on its size, should have been able to maintain proper conditions much longer.

What was the temp when you got back home?

Is this your 29G planted, LF? If so, keep in mind that your stem plants would have absorbed any or at least most ammonia or nitrite that built up over that period, even using only whatever available light was around... plus with the plants producing O2, the water may have been more saturated with it giving the fish that much more of a chance.

In a tank with big messy fish, conditions probably weren't the same.

Back in the saddle!

Yes, the tank is well planted.

But I covered it with a towel and most of the power outage was over night (7PM to 10AM, temp in the house fell to about 50F). There was no light coming in.

hi,

it was cold in my house & the water droped 5 degrees.

My gold severum, parrotfish & two plecos were ok.

My plecos poo for world piece so the tank was quite messed up - i really think it was mostly an oxygen thing as they were at the top gasping :-(

I plan to plant it so that next time I can oxigenate and brake down some mess.

I'm gutted - but on the plus side can go fish shopping which I couldn't do while everyone was established and happy.

That's AWEFUL!! Sounds like a pretty attractive mix you had before hand. I lost power for only 10 minutes yesterday and it was my first time since having a fish tank at this apt. I immediately went into, what if it doesn't come back right away phase. Before I could think of something, we rectified the situation at home *small leak from upstairs apt* and were able to turn the electric back on. I was standing there when it happened... Must have been aweful now knowing about it until you go home.

Do you have any pictures from before.. or would that just break your heart to post them now?

And who knows, I have heard that all things happen for a reason - maybe the fish of your dreams is out there waiting for you to come pick him up.
