there currently in a 5g with a 11w light(is this wrong type or not ).but when the light goes on they dont teld to swim around much just stay at the surface and there stomachs turn grey like there stressed for some reason but soon as the light goes out they swim all over and there stomach returns to white.

Perhaps they're shocked at the sudden light in their tank. It happens to all kinds of fish; they just get surprised by the bright *flash*. I don't think your lighting is wrong type, but it would be a good idea to provide the fish with a smoother transition to the bright light, if that is the problem. Open up the blinds/curtains in their room to help them get adjusted, or at least make sure the room light has been on for ten minutes or so. That way, they'll have gone from no light to dim light, and will be ready for bright light.
