im thinking of stocking my 46 gal sqaure tanl and i was wondering if i could still have as many fish in the square as in a long tank..

i was thinking
20 neon
1 bristlenose catfish
1m-1f dwarf gorami
6 corydoras

any ideas i thougth of maybe some other tetras like glowlight, black widow, rummynose or some black neons (maybe 10 black 10 normal)

or i could have a tiger barb tank ....]
like
10 tiger barbs
1 bristle nose
4 rainbow fish
fancy guppys....or maybe some glass catfish or a rainbow shark or khuli loaches...

any ideas??

from your lists, you are probably alright... long tanks probably have greater surface areas, thats why they are capable of holding more fish. but as long you keep your filtration system running good, providing good surface agitation you'll be good to go

Haven't you already posted something on this 46 gallon? Oh well,
here goes....you can't put tiger barbs with guppies as they would rip them to pieces. I would definitely go for the first idea:
2 bristle nose-if you get algae, you would need 2 to take care of it.
2 dwarf gouramis m/f-nice centerpiece
10 neons
10 black neons-the colour choice would look absolutely fabulous as the noens would really bring out the black on the black neons. I really think you should go with that idea, or rummies and lemons, or rummies and black neons would also look great.
6 corys-panda, schwartzi, julii, trilineatus, any of the smallish types, not peppered, albino or bronze.

oh yah i overlooked the tiger barb part...

are you asking if those fish are compatible? or are you asking if your tank capacity is too small???

I would go with this:-

20 Rummynose Tetra
1 Bristlenose Catfish + a piece of Driftwood
1m-1f Dwarf Gourami
8 Corydoras

20 tetras or harlequin rasboras-I think one large school would look better than two smaller schools

1 BN-great for algae

M/F pair of dwarf gouramis-good choice for that size tank

8 cories or a group of loaches, whichever you prefer

There is water at the bottom of the ocean

yes i posted about this but i forgot some things ...

and yes i knew that tiger barbs will kill guppys and nip things but i was just asking wat fish everyone thought would be good together and look good

i would like 10 black neons but they r expensive in my lfs
and im definatly getting the dwarf goramis and the bristlenose and 6 panda cories or some other cories

but i just dont know which neons or tertas to get ....the tank already has driftwood and lots of plants and hiding places
sand substrate and a powerhead for surface movement
i just need to decide on the tetras

No disrespect labrakitty but you have to be a bit careful with 2 BN Plecs as they can get territorial if they are two males (they wont bother other fish though)

hi
i live in aus to and i know that black neons can be expensive.
if u r going to get black neons try go to a big lfs like stricltly aquaiams and u should be able to get a good deal for a skool of them.
as for tiger barbs i definitly disadvise
wats the amount of litres because i'm not used gals
i like the person before ideas of wat fish to keep, the neons would make black neons really stand out

No disrespect taken, good point, but i have 2 male bristle nose and they do not fight. You just have to make sure they have enough bogwood and food for both of them. 1 piece of wood per bn. Or you try and get females or just 1.

I am in Aus, and black neons aren't at all expesive to me...only around $6?
