I am definitely going to stock either zipper loaches or YoYo loaches.

Can you think of any other fishes to go with them? I'll keep 4 - 5 to te loach schooll.

To be honest, I can't think of many 30g fish that CAN'T go with them

Dwarf cichlids, any small schoolers, a BN, otos, gourami... the list goes on, you've got tons of options. If you want to go with an asian theme you can have a large school of a certain type of rasbora, or two smaller schools of dwarf rasbora and a gourami. It really depends. They'll use a lot of the bottom, so maybe not corys...

If there is a chance you might be breeding any fish you put with them, I would stay with either mouth brooders, or live bearers. As the loaches will eat any eggs any fish lays on the bottom. If they don't get the eggs, they will get the fry.

Now for suggestions, I think rainbows would go great. They will fill the mid and upper layers of the tank. And a 30 gal can house most any species of rainbows. About 5 of the larger sized ones, and if you went with some of the smaller ones, like the parva, preacox, etc, you could have about 10 of them, or a couple small groups of 3-4 each.

A school of Barbs too they just love the space provided by a 30...and they'll be right at home with the loaches!

so far...

5 yoyo/zipper loaches
1 gold gourami
*possibly a school of barbs or even rainbows*

Not all barbs are nippers though. From what I've heard TB's kept in a big enough school shouldnt bother others as much.
Banded barbs have similar patterns and supposedly don't nip.
Gold barbs are smallish, brilliant orange () and active. Rosy barbs get on the largish side, also active and colorful.

very true babelfish. 'Large enough schooll" is the phrase in your comment that might not apply to my tank. Im not sure how many I can fill in the schooll.

With my yo-yos in my 29 gallon are a school of seven harlequin rasboras, a pair of blue dwarf gouramis, a dwarf pleco (l186b rubbernose) and the remnant of my molly days. All get along well, and no one ever nipped a fin.

yes I am confident that the yoyos will be fine enough. I was concerned about tiger barbs.
