It is true that they will often 'trim' a betta's fins, but this is not always the case. Also, many bettas can co-exist just fine with neons, and not kill them. It depends on the personality of the betta, and it's all hit-and-miss. And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

The list for the 20g is definitely ok, and for the 10g, just make sure you keep it well maintained. Personally, I'd choose a dwarf gourami over the betta for the 10g just to avoid any possible problems. In most cases the betta would be ok, but every once in a while you do get a fish that just doesn't tolerate certain conditions. I have a couple buttheads myself ><>Dani<><
