The neons will nip at your bettas fins, and if he is "mentally unstable" for lack of other words, he could make short work of the neons. I wouldn't do it myself...that and the corries with the betta would be fully stocked.

Eh, the neons messing with a betta wouldn't be a guarantee. It is true that they will often 'trim' a betta's fins, but this is not always the case. Also, many bettas can co-exist just fine with neons, and not kill them. It depends on the personality of the betta, and it's all hit-and-miss.

Make it 7 tiger barbs.. they like to be in odd numbers

The ten seems a big stocked with all those cories.. and the neons will most likely leave the betta alone

I think it all depends on your filtration and water changes, if they are good (eg. a good HOB and weekly water changes), then 10gal isn't a problem for those fish

Your lists are fine. The list for the 20g is definitely ok, and for the 10g, just make sure you keep it well maintained. Personally, I'd choose a dwarf gourami over the betta for the 10g just to avoid any possible problems. In most cases the betta would be ok, but every once in a while you do get a fish that just doesn't tolerate certain conditions. I have a couple buttheads myself

the 10 gallon should work if you use a dwarf gourami. what is the bn? if it is a black neon then the 20 gallon could work if there are 6 or more.

Thanks for the replies. "BN" is a bristlenose pleco. I might just leave the 10 with the cories and neons. I really don't like bettas or gouramis, I was just looking for variety.

Actually, would it be okay to get 2 blue rams instead of the cories? So then, the 10 gal would have the 2 rams and 6 neons.

there are many factors that go into keeping bettas in a comunity tank. bettas do best by themselves. go with the goramui instead.
