Though both are behave and even appear somewhat alike, both species are completely unrelated fish. Stonefish in the general, most common sense is a saltwater species, a type of scorpionfish that uses camouflage to look like a stone. They're known for being quite venomous as well, and are definitely not a fish you want to step on. The Freshwater Stonefish is actually a species of Toadfish; a few Toadfish are brackish, and the Freshwater Toadfish is a fish that is able to handle salinities even as low as freshwater (though brackish is best). The Freshwater Stonefish isn't venomous, though. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |
