I just picked up a steal of a 75G tank ($135 for tank, stand, heater, in-tank filter, power filter and gravel!!) and need to decide what to put in it.

Was kind of thinking about this:
5-6 Silver Dollars
4-5 Pictus Cats
1 Royal Pleco (move him out of my 29g and putting a rubber pleco in there since they don't get so big)

Any suggestions?

Darn good price you have yourself there....
If I'm not mistaken, silver dollars get BIG. I'd suggest African chichlids, preferably mawali. Tangs are expensive and in a tank that big, you'd be buying alot of fish.

The Silver Dollars that I had thought of were the 6" kind (
Myletes hypsauchen), rather than the 12" kind (Myleus rubripinnis)
At least according to the profiles -- I would still need to verify with the lfs which kind they have..

My other thought is to maybe get a dozen or so golden barbs instead of the silver dollars or even in addition to them..

The deal was from a local breeder who is moving and needed to unload tanks. I think it was getting pretty close to moving day

yes that could work but be aware. You would need Java Fern because the Roal pleco and Pictus catfish need Plants. Java fern is not ate by the sliver dollers. you will need other cheep plants for the sliver dollers to eat. You will need large caves or large hallow logs. You might add a few more fish. What fish are in your 29 gal?

The 29 has:
3 yoyo loaches
6 tiger barbs
7 harlequin rasboros
1 zebra danio (survivor of trying a school of zebras - he just wouldn't die)
1 royal pleco
1 dojo loach
- sand base, haven't lost a fish in 9 months! (in that tank, that is)
- plants: an amazon sword, a java fern and an assortment of 'petsmart plastic plants' for the dojo to try to dig up.

I also have a 37 cube with a 6" convict, a 3" green terror and 10" pleco. (picked the pleco up tonight from the rescue tank in the LFS - not sure yet what kind of pleco he is)

Here are some pics of my fish. http://www.binns.org/fishtanks

One of these days I'll get some good pics of the pleco when he's moving around. Tonight he was just laying there, so the coloration and/or lighting isn't so good.

The last bunch are trying to get shots of the royal in the 29g - but between my 3yr old trying to point out where the fishies are and the tiger barbs hamming for the camera, they didn't come out very well.

The 75g won't get set up until we do the flooring in the kitchen (hopefully this weekend) and refinish the stand it came on (again, hopefully this weekend). Then, fish choices will mean something

I usually jump-start the cycle with some gravel out of one of the other established tanks, and toss in a few fish to help generate a bio-load. I am usually too impatient to sit around looking at a completely empty tank while it cycles.
I'll then add the others a few at a time each payday (biweekly).

I'll probably start with the silver dollars and some java ferns. Next, the pictus' and more plants (maybe some amazon swords since they have done well in my other tank) and some bog wood for the royal.

Also need to go rock collecting one of these nights down at one of the local creeks.. I'm about out of good rocks.
