we are currently planning a complete overhaul of our main tank to correct properly a few beginers mistakes and generally brighten up what seems a very dark tank.

one of the things i am looking at is the substrate, is there anything suitable for both cories and plants, seems like a problem to find something suitable for both, im considering terracing the base of the tank so i can stick with sand at the frot and have something more plant freindly at the back if thats what i need to do to keep cories and plants.

other thing i plan is reducing the amount of wood in the tank although i beleive i need to retain some for the 2 BN cats.

please look at my profile for a stock list in case if effects your opinion on what i am planning.

all comments and suggestions are greatly welcomed at this stage as i want to be as advised as possible before starting the job.

thanks

Small rounded gravel will be fine for both the Corydoras & the Plants.
Just leave 2 pieces of Driftwood (even if small) so that the BN's can rasp on them & have a hiding place.

Maybe you can add some more Corydoras & Danios, so they'll be in schools.

What type of plants are you doing?.

already got9 danios and 13 cories, surely that is enough for schools.
the driftwood at the momentis 2 very large peices and 1 small piece, thinking of leaving just the small peice and either a new smallpiece or a cutoff from one of the large peices.
current plants are just 2 large amazon swords plus a few young, planning on adding a rotala indica or rotala mararandra, a cabomba carolina and some ech tenellus.

Corydoras need to stay in schools from the same species. ex. 6 Panda & 6 Bandit.

cories will school by colour, not species so bandits and pandas are fine together.

If they all school together, then they're fine. Panda's & Bandit's are quite close in colours & if they school together, than they're Ok.
