we have swapped out most of the sand for rounded gravel leaving a cobble surrounded beach at the front, we also removed the 2 large pieces of bogwood and moved the large sword plants to the corners to allow more swimming space.
just waiting for a delivery or new forground and midground plants now and a new smaller piece of wood.

pictures to follow once the water has settled.

As they say "Looking Good" I would not have the Swords too close to the corners as this could inhibit their growth a bit.

the swords are about 6" in from the corners, they are both about 8" diameter and 20" tall, dont think they will get too much bigger.

OOO Nice wendy and hembo

Only suggestion I'd make is that you've got the plants in a U shape and the driftwood in the opposite. If you combine the hardscape (rocks ect) with the plants to form one aquascape goal I think it'd work better.
In anycase it looks nice and bright :88).

Hi, just wondering how did u seperate the sand from the gravel?

Ive been thinking of doing somthing similar with one of my tanks for awhile, just need a way to keep the sand seperate or it will end up at the bottom.

jakieblak, i seperated the sand and gravel completely by having a wall of cobbles between them.

babel, what we are looking for in the long term is to add further hard landscaping around the base of the taller plants at the back to provide a few extra caves, and hopefully the crypts and hairgrass will grow enough to break up the hard landscape at the front. we were aiming for a sort of cobbled beach look.
