I saw them online for $6 a piece, so nothing special there. Seems to be the common price for this kind of rainbow (Dwarfs went for the same price).

I wonder how much they cost on the other side of the world?

yeah most rainbows in the uk go for £5 to £7 as juveniles and up to £25 for an adult.Harsh prices, but since some of them breed pretty well- red rainbows especially, the price will probably come down eventually.

I think if more people knew their potential for colour when removed from pet shops they might be more popular, its easy to overlook em when they look all blanched out from stress. Which is ironic, cos a lot of fish that are small and bright in shops get blander as they get older and bigger , and rainbows generally get brighter and more vivid.

I still dont think that a lot of the cheaper smaller species are really suited for most people though, cos theyre sensitive both mentally and to water quality- and theyre the ones that are all wild collected, hardly ever breed, and cant really suffer the exploitation of collection.
The good ones that are bigger , tougher, more colourful and reproduce well are all expensive. Go figure.
