michelsa![]() Hobbyist Posts: 77 Kudos: 57 Votes: 12 Registered: 12-Mar-2005 ![]() | this is what i have right now. I know that it's over stocked and i'm working on it. I have 2 30-60 gallon filtration systems running both with activated carbon screens and white filter screens. Weekly 25% water changes and all parameters are FINALLY good. Suggestions and comments please. I have plants, but they will not stay under the gravel and rocks that i have as substrate probably because of the eel (which we NEVER see)... 55 gallon tank 1 peacock eel 2 blue dwarf gourami's 2 gold dwarf gourami's 3 giant danios 6 mixed fruit tetra's (I KNOW I KNOW!!!):#(:#( 2 salt and pepper cory's 2 pictus catfish 5 tiger barbs 1 bonus guppy tinfoil barb, black shark, and 3 cae's to go back to lfs ![]() 3 albino acf's to go in their own tank, maybe with the pictus??? null I was told that a 33gal tank would be suitable for the 3 frogs, so what to put in with them is another question!!!![]() chelle |

If you keep fewer species of schooling fish in better filled out schools, you'll have a much nicer effect and the fish dynamics will be more interesting as well. I would choose either the cories or pictus cats and then I would up the numbers. If pictus, I would likely go with 4 and if cories, I'd keep 7-12, preferably all the same species for best visual impact. It sounds like you are not getting much enjoyment from the eel? I might consider finding it a new home or maybe you need to provide some architectutal element(s) that it could hide in and feel safe such that you could see it more frequently during the day. I'm not a huge fan of tiger barbs due to their tendancy to nip, but if they have not been pestering the gouramies, then I guess its a workable fit. Tiger barbs tend to be more apt to nip when kept in smaller groups, so again, if keeping the barbs, I would add a few more. For plants, try to get some java fern and anubias. Attach the rhisomes it to driftwood or rock and the roots will eventually grab on and hold fast. No more floating plants! They are fairly slow growing so command a price premium, but are well worth it IMO. They do well even in very low light conditions. For algae patrol, I would suggest adding one bristlenose catfish (ancistris) as it will not get overly huge as common plecos do. I have no experience with clawed frogs so will not offer any advice there - about all I know is that they can get pretty big and will eat fish that fit into their mouths. |
