I have all the symptoms -- the constant sizing up of every space in the house to figure what size tank would fit there, the running inventory in my head of our current tank, filter, etc stock and the stocking plan for each tank....yep, I have MTS (Multiple Tank Syndrome) and I have it bad!!!!!
DH and I are both avid hobbyists and at the height of our craze had 9 tanks of varying size up and running (became known as "those people with all the fish tanks" ) ..but when we moved last I decided since everything was landing on me (DH works insane hours - can't remember the last time HE actually did anything to "his" tank) we would cut back and we only set up 2 in our new home....at the moment we have 1 75 gallon Afircan (Malawi) community, a 46 gallon bowfront tank housing German Blue Rams, 2 bristlenoses and a school of rummynoses and a 10 gallon tank in my daughters room that is home to 2 fiddler crabs (can't really count it as an aquarium, per say, since only 1/2 of it is under water - they have a lovely beach too ).
Well, all that is about to change. I have decided to go ahead and set up our 2 5 gallon "mini-bows" and a 29 gallon. The 5 gallons will house a pair of A Australe and a pair of N brevis....the 29 will likely be home to some shell dwellers as well (maybe Neolamprologus cylindricus -btw,any tankmate suggestions for those -, but I'm open to suggestions, lol). Now I just have to move around some furniture to make room...........

MJ I hate to tell you I don't really think there is a cure for MTS. I thought for sure I had found the cure...I went out and bought within 1.5 months a 125, 20, 20, 10, 2.5...guess what? I still want another tank...so the only way to cure it is not to admit that you have the problem...so open up the storage and pull those tanks out! heidi

If you don't get treatment, MTS could lead to MLTS (Multiple Large Tank Syndrom).

N. Cylindricus is a great fish, but it's a cave, not shell dweller. Mine love the tank's lace rock with all of its caves and hidey holes.

You know you're an MTS sufferer when:

1. You and your boyfriend spend almost all of your time/money in fish stores.

2. Your future dream house includes a basement devoted entirely to fish.

3. The above mentioned dream house also has a fish tank in EVERY room.

4. You buy special shelving to put all your betta tanks on.

5. You're a member of the local aquarium society.

6. You count your total gallonage and think "That's it?!"

7. You and your boyfriend save all your change through out each year to save up for a joint SW tank.

8. Before you even start setting up the tank you just bought, you start planning your next one.

So far, I have numbers 3, 4, 6, and 8.

3: I've already planned out my new apartment with a tank (or 2 or 3) in every room, and we're not moving there until august

4: I voluntered to dismember the shelves in my brothers room by hand (it took about an hour for 2 shelves becasue of a series of bent nails) just so I could see how strong they are.

6: I feel self concious that I am on the lower end on the tank gallonage poll.

8: Only I didn't even buy the tank yet.

And you can't forget the issue of the mysterious shrinking tanks.
