I'm trying to identify a fish that I saw today at my lfs. It was the only fish of its kind in a tank of several types of barbs. It was about 1.5 inches long and had a body shape similar to that of a zebra danio. The tail was medium length and forked. It was a beautiful golden yellow color(lighter than a gold barb, possibly about the shade of a golden pristella). There was a black spot near the tail (like on a rosy barb). Most noticible was the circular dark pink "blush" on the gils that made me think of a cockatiel.

Can anyone identify this fish?

Thanks.

Not sure. But is this what it looked like? (my sketch might help other people if it did...) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/superlion/temp/unknown.gif

It wouldn't be a clown barb or belted barb would it?

EDIT: Belted barbs are red...and have stripes not spots duh

I appreciate all of your suggestions but so far the fish remains a mystery. It isn't a clown barb, they are too orange and have stripes. It isn't a gold tetra they are more of a metallic gold. This fish was more yellow. Superlion's sketch is almost perfect except that the "blush" should be even more brilliant.

Can anyone else solve my mystery?

if the tail was especially forked could it have been some kind of killifish? they have an elongated body like a danio, and there are yellow species. I'm not sure what's a good link for killifish info, there are so many slightly differing species.

Bingo tetrafan31313! You hit the nail right on the head. That is exactly the fish that I saw. What a beauty! I may have to get a school of those.

The kid at the lfs tried to tell me it was a sickly Rosy Barb! I knew he was off his rocker. Thanks for the help everyone
