When I get back in 2 weeks I'm moving everything from my 55g planted community to a 90g. Digging up and replanting that amazon sword is going to be fun. I have enough eco complete for 2.5" of substrate.
Current stock is
2 congo tetras
1 emperor tetra
5 panda cory
7 sparkling gouramis
6 threadfins
unknown otos
~20 golden clams
4 ghost shrimp
1 farlowella
1 olive royal pleco
3 1-2" L134
1 male blue gourami

For certain I would like to add 8 congos, more pandas, a female opaline gourami, and around 12 midget shrimp. I've tried a few times to increase the emperor school but they keep ending up with 1 illness or another. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. It took a year to locate 5 healthy pandas so I think I will order some online. How many pandas should I add? Can I leave all the plecos in there or should I move some out to the 30g? I'd also like to add 5 licorice gouramis if possible.

Your plecos should be fine in the 90 gallon

I would add another 5-10pandas

And I am so jealous!!! I would love to replace my 55 with a 90or course I wouldn't replace it, I guess I'd just add the 90 and move the fishiesyes, i suffer from mts

And I have had a similar problem with ther Emperor Tetras...I began with a school of 10 and am down to one adult and one juvenile...i still don't know who bred and created it

Anyways lucky you, enjoy, heidi

from what i've read, i don't think emperor tetra need to school quite as badly as other tera. you can keep them lone, or in 2s and 3s. I have the problems you're having, but with neons, I'm down to one, who is quite old, ad i can never work out whether he'd be happier back at an lfs with loads of friends in a tiny tank, or lone in my 55. if he was an emeror it wouldn't matter so much.

The emperors mostly scattered across the tank and weren't good schoolers at all so hopefully she will be fine. I was happy that I had a male and female left but then he randomly got sick with a bacteria infection and died while noone else in the tank showed any illness.
I'd gladly set up both tanks but I only have 1 space large enough for a 4' tank unless I want one sitting in front of full length windows. I might use the 55 for saltwater in the future when I find space for it.

In the wild, Emperor Tetras live alone or in pairs, and they tend to be very territorial with one another. Don't worry about bumping up their numbers.

Increasing the numbers of the Threadfin Rainbows would be good, however.

Remember, if your tank is heavily planted and if you stick to peaceful community fish, than you can usually go way over the old "inch per gallon" rule.

I would love a tank full of threadfins . Except they are $12 each here and they haven't shipped well so far. I have 4 males left that I added to my azgarden order and I bought 2 females. I'm hoping I can get them to spawn.
