well its been about 95 degreese here in jersey the past week, and my 75 is about 86 degreese, is there anyway to lower the temp? I thought about putting ice in there throughout the day and letting it slowly melt, would that be a bad idea? I already have a fan blowing on it.

Well, the first good news is, the heat wave in jersey is set to break today.

Second, adding ice is generally a bad idea because it can temperature shock the fish. Furthermore it leads to unstable temperature, since after it melts the water will keep warming up, only to be knocked down again by the addition of more ice. Not good for the fish. Your best bet is to keep the fan blowing and leave it as is - maybe add an airstone to keep O2 levels in the water up.

Don't putt ice in
I also use a fan..it's the best thing to do.I have my lid/top litle bit open(5cm)so some air from the fan will get in.I had problems to with hotwater but now with the fan its better.

Just use the fan. Nobody recommends ice, as it drops the water temperature.

Depending on if you have jumpers or not you could take the hood off. And lights on as little as possible.

Ok, I can repeat the advice to use a fan over the top of the tank, the evaporation will help cool the water. If even more cooling is needed, wrap wet towels around the tank as well. As the towels dry from the fan, the water evaporates from the towels which will also cool the tank.

I had a similar problem back in March when my AC went out, and my house was running 90*+

You can do small water changes to help, assuming that your water out of the tap is cooler than mine but only 5% you don't want to drop the temp too much, too fast or you'll have more problems...

Take the hood off and lower the water level and put a fan on the tank.

Just put a fan on the tank might help.

And my favorite way is to drop the temp in the house a few degrees and it will definately help

Also keep the blinds shut in your apartment, along with putting up some thick or black out curtains to help keep the heat out of your house...

And of course leave the lights off on the tank always helps, and oh yeah sorry about the babbling, add a few airstones depending on the size of the tank and this will help as well...

Best of luck, and keep cool, we hit over 100* today here
