What fish will go well with a red tailed black shark in a 41 gallon tank? Tigerbarbs? Plecos? Ottos?

in my experiance, each red tailed has its own personality.i have kept a few that bothered nothing, and several that terrorized everything.

up until several months ago, i had 2 in a 150 gal tank. one was tolerant of everything, the other was not. i gave up trying to catch the bad one after a few weeks, but the tank was big enough/understocked enough that his nastiness was easily avoided. the "bad" one was an adult transplant from a smaller tank, and the "good" one was a tiny baby fresh from the pet shop.

try buying a juvenile red tailed and introduce into a tank with an established pecking order. if you are lucky, the other fish will "train" it to tolerate them. if you are unlucky, good luck trying to catch it.

I have a RTB shark he gets on fine with my Bushy Nosed Pleco, in fact they hang out together, RTB is only little.

I also have a Black Calvus cichlid, they dont get on so well Calvus doesnt like him.

Ottos I am not sure about, your RTB might go for them as they are simular shaped.

Tiger Barbs are quite punchy and do nip a bit, they maybe OK. I think they come from the same region. You need to keep about 6 as theyare shoal fish.

The RTS would get along fine with a school of Tiger Barbs, just Tiger Barbs are nippers, so I'd be careful getting those cuz they may nip the shark...

RTS get along fine with plecos and I've never seen one terrorize any plecos...

My RTS didn't bother my ottos in the least. Have a lot of plants (real or fake) and the ottos should be perfectly fine...

Thanks for the advice, again. Is a rainbow shark as agressive/teritorial as a red tailed black shark? If it isnt, I would replace the red tailed black shark with a rainbow shark. If i did this, could i get 6 corydoras and 3 ottos?

Rainbow sharks are the same in temperment as a RTBS.
Keep in mind though that each fish is different. I had one rainbow shark that was a real nasty bugger, and the one I have now is sweet as pie.
Just like people fish are individual in personality!
I think you will be fine with a RTBS or Rainbow Shark and Tiger barbs and ottos.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend a firemouth with an RTS either. There is a GOOD possibility that the firemouth will kill the RTS, so I would side with your LFS in this situation...

I think i would be more concerned about the shark killing the firemouth depending on the size of it. Firemouths are more calm then some SA cichlids.

I have a Albino RTS and he hasent done anything to the fish at all..he is really a good guy.
He even shares the cave with the pleco and hoplo catfish
I also have 2 keyholes ,1 krib,6 green tiger barbs and 3 zebra danios. So far all the fish are doing great,no fighting between them.
