In my experience pleco's have been pretty good at taking care of lost soldiers. Although I wouldn't say that he's the reason they died, they're just good at cleaning up the remains.

How big is the pleco? How big is the cichlid? How long had the cardinals/neons been in the tank?

This may sound a little sick, but I had friend who's neons kept disappearing. He finally figured out his ADF was eating them. He could see the neon glow in the frog's stomach.

maybe they got a mystery disease like my cardinals. They were all fine until one day one died, then the next day another dies and the next day another died, one by one they all dropped off. It was like they decided all to commit mass suicide, and I've heard of this kind of thing happening before to cardinals and neons.

I found the bodies to some of them, but not the others, and we have a brislenose plec, but I don't think he ate them... and the fact that you didn't find the bodies makes me think someone definately had them for lunch. It must be the cichlid if its big enough, I've never seen a plec eat any other fish before.

My bet is on the female bettas or the cichlid

Leslie had 3 female bettas who literally ate themselves to death silly girls, and once they are through with them the pleco finished off the evidence...

I'm sorry about the losses it is awful:#(

what i don't get is that they all have been living in the same tank together for 3 months.

It sounds like 1 of your larger fish just discovered it could eat the smaller fish. Once it had one, it started after the others. I wouldn't keep any small fish in that tank and I would remove the two remaining small fish.
