OK last night or well this morning I was doing gravel vacs on all the tank and general tank maintenance, figured why not since I couldn't seem to sleep anyways

Well, I get though with the 20, the 2, 2.5, 10, 29, and whatever else is set up in the bedroom for now, and go to do the 125, finally realizing that I am finally getting tired, but wanting to finish this...

I am doing a good deep gravel vac when I see this "snake like" thing in the python sucky piece...I freak and would probably have screamed had it not been 6 am and drop the gravel and all the gunk, breaking the suction all together...I'd seen something like this once before, but just put it off on me being tired, and seeing things...so that is what i was willing to think again when I go back and decide to revac the same area again, really well thinking if there is something I'll suck it up again, and I did...

I don't know what it is...I never up this "thing" into the tank...it isn't a Khuli Loach, and I was too freaked and made sure it went down the sink before thinking dang I should have gotten pics to help identify the dang thing...

So I go back to vacuming and find another one in the same area...ok other than freak me out, and scare the beegeezis out of me...what is it?

It looks kind of like a Khuli Loach but with suctioning mouths? They can get really short and fat, and then stretch to get long and thin, kind of like a rubberban...is it possible for snails to escape their shells, or even with the help of clown loaches? Otherwise what are they? What can I do to get rid of the nasty things? Are they gonna hurt my fishies? Will the Clowns eat them?

Somebody help, they are nasty looking little things, and I want them gone ***shivers at the thought of them***

heidi

With the sucker mouth, it seems like some kind of leech. Some species are parasitic, others are predators of small crustaceans and insects, while others are just plain scavengers and are harmless. The best way to find out what it is is to get one out of the tank or take a picture of one to study.

How would you get leeches in a tank? Do they hitch a ride in with plants like snails?

They can be introduced to tanks by a few ways... They can come on live plants (probably the most common method), live foods, they can hitch rides on snails, and pretty much anything you get from a local body of water can have leeches on it.

we need a picture to verify...it amy not be leech...but parasitic worms from snails...snails r nasty intermediate hosts to wide varieties of worms...it could be worse...a hookworm...in its filariform stage..can be infectious to human.

Sounds like a deal Les, as soon as GG is gone, and the room quit spinning around:%)

Hopefully I've got them out of the tank, if I find anymore everyone will know about it as I have a screaming fit...

So do ya'll think I should get the metae fry out of the tank and put them in another? Heidi

Ok so that I can easily cross-reference the two posts about leeches, not that i want to think about it being a leech...can't i just add some aquarium salt? wouldn't that get rid of them? do ya'll think the BN or the clownloaches will eat them? oh yuck i'm whining again

OK back to leeches, I've added aquarium salt and they aren't dying, I've even managed to bag one and am adding salt to it's bag, it won't die!!!

Now I've read in an old Inne's Fish book that they don't like tobacco...anyone have any ideas on that? bury it in nylons under the gravel? Or shall I ditch the gravel and go totally bottomless? I can't stand them any longer HELP!!!!
