| what to breed? | |
Ethan14![]() Big Fish Posts: 312 Kudos: 339 Votes: 18 Registered: 06-Jul-2005 ![]() | I have some spair supplies around and I'm going to set up a 10 gallon breeding tank today. The question is what kind of fish should I breed? and no livebearers. I was thinking it would be pretty cool to breed gouramis. Any suggestions? I have also thought about rams and killifish. Still thinking about rams but ruled killifish out for now. Also, I have a ph of about 7.5-7.8 and fairly hard water. Can German Blue rams breed ok with these water conditions? They had several pairs spawn successfully. There are also several smaller slightly less common species of gourami that you could spawn. The trouble is getting ahold of them. Aquabid.com is a good place to find some fish for a good price. |

Not only will they give you a good challenge, but if you get some of the rarer cats to spawn, they can be very profitable. ![]() I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

Whenever somebody brings in a bunch krib fry/juvies that aren't even of saleable size, we just use them as feeders. ![]() I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

The purple kribs are going great around me right now. Kribs will do fine in a 10 gal. I have had several different species spawn in 10 gal tanks. They are easy, good parents, and actually a neat fish to experiment with. I did a study awhile back on the effect of ph on these fish. The ph is what determines the sexes of the fry. Very interesting. As well, these fish are one of the few that have multiple links on the genetic chain that determine their colors. Where as most fish have one or two, these guys have about 7. There is always a bigger fish... |
