How about some killifish as they are some of the most colorful fish available.

Browse your lfs, see what's available, and go with something you've never kept.

Tetras aren't my favorites but there are so many varieties. Peaceful barbs like gold, belted, cherries. Harlequins are good schoolers. As common as they are, many people haven't kept livebearers...they're colorful, peaceful, active. If you've kept cories, get loaches for the bottom or vice versa. Check around for different gouramis or maybe some sort of small cichlid as a centerpiece.

I think that would work for you, but make sure you go with one of the smaller pleco species.

I recommend nixing the pleco. Even smaller species, by virtue of being a pleco, will be poop machines.
