Piranha get to about a foot long and they are schooling fish. 6 fish are usually what is considered a small school, so 6 twelve inch fish will not fit comfortably in a 50 gallon. However, if you do plan on moving them in the future (when they reach about 4 inches, which is not long) then they will be fine. Also, the 50 gallon is better since it has more surface area thus can hold more and larger fish. Anyway, if you plan on moving them in the future to a larger tank, then yes, otherwise, NO. ~Jorge |

I had piranha's at one time and actually they got to be pretty boring in my opinion. ![]() ![]() |

They're not once in a lifetime; they're around, and someday you may have the tankspace for them, and then you can seek them out. You've got plenty of time to keep Piranha, no need to put them in a too-small tank. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

Even though a 50 isn't as long as a 55, it is wider, and it allows for more surface area. Which means more fish and more turning space. |
