I added a piece of driftwood, but I had the white things b4. They seem to be light enough that they don't all settle, but some have on the driftwood, and glass. Can anyone tell what this is, and how to get rid of it? Here are some pics of them. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11/lookin_around/DSC_0750.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11/lookin_around/DSC_0749.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11/lookin_around/DSC_0746.jpg |

Then they are planaria in all likelihood. If it appears to be a fine dust in the water that settles without moving, then it may be: - something precipitating out of the water, - bacterial or algae bloom. __________ "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." researched from Steven Wright |

The precipitate idea could be plausible, but precipitates usually settle and don't go floating around the tank. In all probablity it is dust or something that was on the siades and bottom of the tank before you filled it up. Doing Water Changes may help reduce the number, as for bacterial bloom, it may be possible though I do not believe bacteria colinate like that during a bloom but istead just give the water a hazy white appearance. Some additives can percipitate, and/or don't desolve all the way, especially if they are old. Like ph up/down, if old will percipitate. Some additives will just take longer to disolve. While others will react with water that is straight from the tap. IMO, it is some kind of percipitant, and not planaria. Another thought, I see you have dark colored gravel. Some of the cheaper colored gravels, will peel their coloring off and cause this appearance. Did you rinse it good? Check the gravel over closely and see if it appears to be peeling or chipping. There is always a bigger fish... |
