drift wood, red rock white rock is so expensive?

i can't get my head around why they change $5 a kilo for a peice of red rock.

and upto 45$ for a large peice of driftwood.

it's insane!

are there any cheaper online places i can get it ?

Go to your local beach for driftwood... boil it or bake it until all the kooties (love that technical term, eh? ) are dead and gone. You'd have to ask someone else as to time/temp for that, but I know it can be done. As for rocks, if you can find them locally, do. Boil those as well, after testing for suitability for your aquarium (vinegar test).

The only sites I know of are US based, so that prolly would cost you more than your LFS. I'm sure others closer to you could help, though!

check ebay, that is where i got an awesome piece of driftwood, but still have to mount it to some tile or somthing to get it to sink properly heidi michelle

Or garage sales... I saw a nice piece yesterday for 50 cents! I would have gotten it, except that I don't have tank big enough for it, nor really place to store it. It would have made a nice centerpiece for something like a 55 gallon tank though.

Don't forget local wood. Go into a forest or something. My neightbor cut down his tree hte other day and there was a huge log that would have fit perfectly in a 100 gallon tank or such.
As for rocks, we have deposits all over. Just look around.
