And pet stores sell the babies without warning. "Yeah, let me get one of those and a handful of bala sharks for my 20 gallon!"

Dolf don't forget your ID shark also, it would make a nice "small" addition to your 20 gallonor coke bottle lid for that matter

What would you feed that monster?

Depending on the width of his nuckles, that fish is probably only between 24 and 32 inches. Most mens' knuckles are between 3 and 4 inches wide. And, from a measurement of the fish in the pic, it is 8 of his knuckles width. It just looks larger because of the size if his head, as he holds the fish out in front of him. And this makes his head look smaller behind it.

But, just FYI, most books call them to be able to reach a full length size of up to 39 inches. The one I lost last year, was 8 years old, and was 29 inches. He ate about a dozen night crawlers per week.

That is from an angling site...clowns and other knives are fished for (via rod/reel/hook) regularly in SE Asia...and occasionally in parts of Florida, where they have been introduced. I have seen quite a number of adult clowns that size, and 4-5 that were about 42" each....far larger than most aquarists would ever suspect.

They are actually quite good eating:

Mok Pa Fok
A kind of steamed fish pâté

½ kilo Pa tong (clown knife)
2 Shallots
4 white peppercorns (or nearly 1 teaspoonful of prepared white pepper)
2 eggs, beaten
½ cup coconut cream
1 teaspoonful salt
½ teaspoonful MSG
2 teaspoonfuls nam pa (fish sauce)
2 or 3 small chili peppers
some sprigs of dill

- Scale your piece of Pa tong. Remove the flesh, discarding such bones as you can but ignoring the fine ones. Chop up the flesh and then pound it very fine.
- Pound the shallots and the white peppercorns and combine them with the fish. Add the beaten eggs, the coconut cream, the salt and the MSG. Mix the whole well, so that it is of a smooth and creamy consistency and put it in little banana leaf baskets. Steam these for about 15 minutes. Or, if you wish, you may roast them on a charcoal fire.
- Decorate the fish pâté (which is to be left in its banana leaf baskets) with thin rounds of chili pepper (produced by slicing the peppers crosswise) and tiny feathers of dill leaf.

I think it looks real. The lighting is correct, and the fish's body is indented where his hands are.

Plus, personally, if I were gonna fake something like that, I'd make the fish a whole lot bigger!

yea, i now see that it is actually a real fish, but it isn't as big as it appears, it's a technique used by fisherman to make a fish appear larger, simply extend your arms all the way to get the fish as close to the lense yet still have the picture look good (experiance talking here)

I saw one that big in an aquarium shop. It was in a huge tank (there was a 5ft meekong catfish swimming around in the same tank).
