Hello,
I have a 30g tank Idea. This may be a little crowded but here I go...
1 Flame Angel
2 Clowns
1 Yellow Clown Goby
2-3 Yellowhead Jawfish
Maybe a Longnose Hawkfish

How does it sound?

Chris

Way crowded. Even if you choose a small clownfish species, you're looking at several fish which grow over two inches in length. Personally, I don't feel that a thirty gallon would be enough room for any angelfish species (outside of the smallest Centropyge) and I feel that the hawkfish is borderline. If you dump the angel and hawk, you would have an okay stock list. Just bear in mind that the clowns would become highly protective of their eggs if they spawned, and the jawfish need special accomodations.

Yeah like books said even dwarf angels should not be put in a tank that small. A 55 gal. min for a dwarf angel 75 gal. would be much better.

What about a hawkfish instead of the angel? Would that work in a 30?

I wouldn't do one with all of those other fish. It's just too many, you need to drop one or more species.

My revision would be:

2 occ. clowns
1 yellowhead jawfish
1 geometric pygmy hawkfish <-----awsome fish
1 yellow clown goby

That's a pretty nice stocking list IMO

Only one Jawfish? I hear that they are funny to watch them switch holes. Also would the longnose be too big, or just the other is cooler?

I tried keeping as many of the different fish that you wanted, or something similar without overstocking the system. I think 3 jawfish will be a strain on the system. Yes the longnose is big AND this one is cooler and usually more invert safe due to the small size. If you want 3 jawfish I'd recommend them, one clown, and either the goby or the pygmy hawk, not both. You could do 3 jawfish and 2 clowns as well.

Well I think I will go with the original but... No Hawkfish at all. But I have a Book on marine fish and it says Flame angels will go well in a 20g and they only grow to 4 inches. Should I not trust this source?

Four inches of active fish, one that likes to graze on rock. Definitely dump the angel and hawkfish both, unless you get rid of something else. A flame angelfish doesn't belong in a tank of that size at all.

So it does. But would you believe a book that told you about an insane new hair loss product? I realize it is easier to trust something in print over a rude Internet stranger, but the other people that hang around this forum would probably agree with me. Flame angels should be housed in larger aquariums.

A lot of sources say min tank size of 20-30G. Many people have success with them in tanks of about 29-30G. IMO however, they are a sensitive, active fish that can also have temperment issues. I'd agree with SirBooks here. They do much better in larger tanks. There are much more suitable(and IMO nicer looking, cheaper, sturdier etc etc...) species of fish for small tanks, but you have yet to ask.

1 Flame Angel
2 Clowns
1 Yellow Clown Goby
2-3 Yellowhead Jawfish

This is an overstocked tank that will most likely have problems. A poor rule of thumb is 1-2 inches of fish per 5 gallons of a saltwater tank. Some say 1 inch per 10G, that's a bit overboard, but what I'm trying to say is that most people won't tell you 1 inch of fish per gallon is OK. I know it's not a steadfast rule and can be bent a bit, but you have 19(with 2 jawfish, not 3) inches for a 30G tank. You are trying to cram in as many fish in your SW tank as you would in a freshwater tank. It's just not a great recipe for success is all we are trying to tell you. Really deep down we just want your fishes to be happy...

Thanks for caring and I think I might not go with Hawk or Flame Angel and get 3 Jawfish. But Could I switch an angel for the yellow clown goby? Thanks.
