I have a 20 gallon tank that was given to me by a friend...and they used it for a salt water tank....now it has salt stanids on the sides that just won't come off?? is there anything i can use that well get rid of this mess??

It is most likely not salt stains. As the salt would dissolve easily with normal tap water ran across it. It is more likely either coraline algae or calcium build up deposits. Either way, a good razor blade is about the best thing you can do to get rid of it. If it is calcium build up try using some vinager with the razorblade.

Use a razor blade only if its a glass tank, otherwise you could easily scratch it a lot!!!

Longer you soak it in vinegar the more it will dissolve anything on the glass. Depends how hard it is to get off and how much scraping you want to do versus how long you want to wait. With small tanks I've filled them with around 1/4th vinegar and the rest water and left them sit for days but with anything over 20g that's not really possible. It would take too much vinegar.
