At W*****t they have a deluxe kit that includes the tank, hood, lights, a heater and a bunch of other little goodies for $39.95. They also have a 55 gal kit just like the 10 gal kit for $158. |

As long as you do everything you are supposed to be doing they are okay. Also, pay no attention to the six happy godies on the cover of that tank Inky |

That is the most expensive part of a tank setup. I paid $60 for my All-Glass 10 gal setup; it included a hood/15W flourescent light, whisper filter (which is poor quality and will be replaced soon) and heater. I think it was on sale. I don't think I'd buy another kit, though. |

openwater Fish Addict Posts: 565 Kudos: 551 Votes: 0 Registered: 24-Jul-2004 | What is the name brand of the kit? There is some 10 gallon kits priced that much where I live too, but most are around 40-50. The cheaper kits are incandescent hoods and really cheap, ineffective hang on the back filters. The more expensive kits are usually the hagen with the aquaclear and flourescent hoods. If one was to buy the kits the more expensive ones are the way to go because the equipment with the cheaper kits are garbage. I still would prefer to buy tank separately , find glass top, buy a flourescent or if have the ability build one from small shop style light, and buy the filter of your choice. The most important thing now is to enjoy your tank. |

crusha Enthusiast Fish Geek Posts: 262 Kudos: 183 Votes: 102 Registered: 11-Nov-2005 | Gee you guys in the States are lucky ... places like Walmart and Big Al's sound really interesting, are they specific to Aquariums/pets or are they like big department stores? We dont have anything like that here in W.A. The only places we can buy set-ups are at the LFS and they become really pricey. The best place to pick a bargain here is to look in the classifieds for second hand. |
