They quite a devoted couple, both to each other and to the latest batch of fry. Very interesting fish to watch 5.5g N. brevis ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

Do you think because of the 'HY' that it might be some sort of hybrid? Have you read about it anywhere else? Diamond tetras are a nice choice you don't hear about very often. I also like gold tetras; kind of sparkly like the diamonds. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

tetraguy3 Small Fry Posts: 12 Kudos: 7 Votes: 2 Registered: 01-Apr-2006 | ive only found it on 2 other sites... they had some pictures of some.. but they are soo new that hardly anyone has them.. they are cheap too.. that website.. when i go into there retail store.. its rare for them to have them in stock... in the few months they had one batch and that sold real quick and that was it. I believe that your right about it being a hybrid.i can ask my friend(hes a aquaculturist there) and ask him about it... yes it is an interesting looking fish... like a hybrid of the serpaes...(tail, coloration, activity) So ill ask and find out and tell you folks asap. thank you! |

LITTLE_FISH ***** Little Fish ***** Master of Something Posts: 7303 Kudos: 1997 Votes: 670 Registered: 20-May-2005 | tetraguy3, Now that is something that I find intriguing (spelling). How come that a fish that is a) rare, b) mostly sold out, and c) just discovered is so cheap? This smells fishy to me (pun intended). Usually rare and new fish are incredibly expensive compared to their more common cousins. Mind boggeling, isn't it? Ingo |

tetraguy3 Small Fry Posts: 12 Kudos: 7 Votes: 2 Registered: 01-Apr-2006 | Little Fish, I agree. something is right.. my theory is that its a hybrid.. cheap cross bred between 2 cheaper tetras.. and claiming as "newly discovered".. Ill ask around at the retail store.. cause .. little fish.. youve got great points to your case.. $3.99 and newly discovered, rare fish does not add up...I think the store is overhyping this "mutt" of a fish Ill get back to you with some info... thank you |

tetraguy3 Small Fry Posts: 12 Kudos: 7 Votes: 2 Registered: 01-Apr-2006 | great news.. i got the email back from the store... ill copy and paste into the page for all of you to enjoy This is from the aquaculturist at the retail store: "I do not have a lot of information on this fish. I have yet to find it in any wild identification books and I do not know of any taxonomic system for tetras that uses a letter code like the Corydoras (C numbers) or Loricariids (L numbers). I can tell you this. The fish comes entirely from one farm in Florida. Most likely this is a hybrid species. It is a very pretty fish and the white dorsal really stands out. Perhaps it is a cross between a diamond tetra and a Rosaceous tetra. That would explain the pinkish body color. Because it is a farm raised fish it is available in large quantities so the price is not that high. Although when the farms are not harvesting ponds like now the supply will be lower. Come summer they will be readily available again." So we were right that its a hybrid.. good job everyone... and its a cross between a diamond and a rosaceous... i guess a cross of diamond and serpae.. There you all go.. if youve got more questions about it.. i can ask him again tetraguy3 |
