I went browsing at a lfs I hadnt been to in a while and to my surprise they had Endlers in stock. I'm surprised because i've never in my fishkeeping time seen them here. So I put some on hold and will be picking them up tomorrow.

Just wanting to hear from anyone that has these guys. Anything I should know about them that isnt written about in articles online? I wanna keep them happy!

I have a few spare tanks here that I could use for them. I was planning to keep them in my community 55g that has 5 cories, 6 pristella tetras, 5 glass catfish, a RTB, a clown loach thats looking for a new home, 2 BN plecs and 4 cherry barbs. Does that sound alright?

Would you be getting males only or a combo? If mixed, Endler's are like other livebearers in that they should be kept in a ratio of at least 1M/2F.

They don't eat their own fry, but in a community tank the other fish might; fry are very small.

They're quite active yet peaceful, and will eat anything. They tend to like temps a bit warmer and appreciate a planted tank.

Thanks Theresa. I ended up with 3 males and 5 females. They seem to be settling in well. The males all have slightly different patterns but I think are only just beginning to color up.

What temp do you suggest? I have the tank at 76F.

Congrats, that's exciting, they're some of my favorite fish

Most recommendations I've read are for tank temps of 78°; that's what I keep my main breeding tank at. Last month I ordered three new color patterns. They're in a separate tank which actually doesn't have a heater. Daytime temp is that tank is 76-77°. I really haven't noticed any difference in behavior, color, growth, etc in being kept at a bit lower temp.

My only Endler's complaint is that they're very difficult to photograph :%)

Calla, apparently they have been on our import list for just a month. I nearly fell over with disbelief when I saw them!
I'm not sure what color pattern they are. Theresa, or anyone else, is there a site that names the different patterns? I agree they are going to be hard to photograph. They are only half an inch long. I might try it sometime soon. :%)

I've read that they are very closely related to guppies, and that their water conditions are the same to keep them happy. They are so much like the guppies that they can cross breed, so if you want to keep them a pure strain, keep the guppies away from them...:%)

My males look much like the small male in that pic. Instead of the irridescent green though they have blue. I have also noticed that the males have a sword. Is that a common trait? They change as they mature do they?

And dont worry I wont let guppies near these guys!

Single and double swords are not uncommon in Endler's. These guys also appreciate some salt in their water and as mentioned temp on the higher side.
