If you're planning on breeding don't get too small of a tank!

Look for a 20 gallon breeder. They're longer than the standard 20 gallon which is better for breeding. You might want to look into actually separating the tank into two or more segments rather than using breeding traps.

Only advice I can give on guppies, is get females. I had fry in the bag before I got them home from the store. Also had some born in a tank 6 months after they'd been away from the males. Be ready for lots of fry.

^_^

Babelfish is perfectly correct about guppies.

How small are you calling small? Even if you went to big tank sooner or later it will be over populated.
Have you thought what you are going to do with all the fry as they grow up.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

The best thing to do would be to get some gupy fry from someone you know and raise them. That way you know they havn't been bred with and can keep the males and females seperate until your ready.

I agree with Gourami. The livebearers i have, where all given to me when they where a few days old & i raised them up. Keep them seperate & only put them together, if you want to breed them.

Don't get a small tank for Guppy's, as you'll soon be overpopulated, as they are profilic breeders.
