![]() | how much salt? |
questor![]() Hobbyist Posts: 62 Kudos: 42 Votes: 1 Registered: 24-Apr-2005 ![]() ![]() | I've noted recommendation for some salt to be added to the tank water for swordtails and platys. How much salt and what kind? If putting these fish in a community tank, with the addition of some salt harm the other community members? |

I don't add salt anymore due to the addition of some dwarf gouramis, so.. you might check on the other fish in the tank? To give a full correct answer you will have to tell us more about your tank. Keith ![]() ![]() Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Right now, 8 harlequin rasboras, 2 black tetras, 1 unknown blue* tetra,1 dwarf neon rainbow, 4 corys. My tank really need some color, so was hoping to add some neons or carninals, and the platys (which have been in my 10 gallon quarantine tank for about a month...without any salt. Eventually though, they will be moved to the larger tank (which hopefully, shortly after Christmas will have grown to a 75 gallon). ![]() |

I have livebearers as well (platies, mollies) and do not add salt. Personally I prefer to use aquarium salt more as a medicinal treatment than a staple in the tank. ___________________________________________ If at first you DO succeed, try not to look astonished. |
