Aragonite substrate, 30+ Lbs of live rock, a couple powerheads, some salt mix, and a submersible heater would be a good start for a FOWLR. Just remember the stocking levels are a lot lower for salt water, and a 29 won't house more than 3 or so small fish. A 29g can be done, but I tend to suggest people a larger tank for thier first marine tank. Maybe a 55 or so.

Matt you forgot the most important thing of all....PATIENCE!!! Although you have to have patience with freshwater, you need tons more with saltwater. I have, and started, with a 29 gallon but it definitely takes a lot of studying and patience. Read through all the "1st tank" posts and all the articles you can fine.

Best of luck!

well im looking at getting a 125 or 240 for my next tank but is going to be freshwater. but im debating between a paludarium or marine tank for my 29 after wards... but only being able to put 2-3 small fish makes me think towards a paludarium.
