Isn't that the truth! I got lucky...I had added a trio of black calvus to the tank earlier in the day and wanted pics of them, the stapps weren't very happy about that and started posturing and flaring

There are several things on getting good photos and it does not always involve the camera.

Clean the glass inside and out.
Make sure the water is perfectly clear and clean.
Be extremly patient.
Good tank lighting.

Now for some camera tips
A good camera is possibly a must.
Take the photo using the correct settings I always use Auto and most times Macro (Little flower setting).
Take the photo with at night with all the house light off this helps in eliminating light reflections.
A good idea is to take the photo at an angle of 15degrees from the side and the same angle either up or down.
