I have some unusual shell dwellers. My clown loaches liked to sleep in shells until I had to simply take the shell out of the tank because it was crumbling

Wow I am so impressed. They are so cool. If I was setting up a desktop tank for work again I would definitely investigate these!!!!

Those tanks are stunning. It would be fascinating to see them set up shop in a particular shell...you are right about their behaviour being fascinating.

Thanks so much for sharing....

Those shots are gorgeous. They are beautiful little things.

Do you want tank photos or fish photos?

How about one of each, until I know what you're looking for.

What I find amazing is that for how small they are they can move the substrate & shells...I could literally watch them for hours and would love to set up a desktop tank for more

Awesome picture Theresa! I still can't believe how tiny they are!

Thanks

I have multies, brevis, and stapps.

Most shellies prefer a sand substrate except multies who would rather have lots & lots of shells. To buffer the tank water I have a small layer of crushed coral under the shells.

I have 8 but at least 3-4 of them don't have their stripes yet, meaning they're still young. They each claim a shell which is their home-territory-and they also use the shells for breeding.

I personally wouldn't say shellies are the flashiest African cichlids but they're fascinating to watch; definitely have personality.

There is a good beginner shelldweller article here]http://www.fishprofiles.com/articles/freshwater/shelldwellers/[/link] and [link=ShellDwellers.com is a great site for lots of shellie info.

I know nothing abut these guys. Are they teeny little dudes who zap around and like to hide in the shells? Up close what colour are they?

That is a very, very unusal looking tank isn't it? I bet you get lots of ooohs and ahhhhs.

I was wondering what a setup would look like becasue people often offer this as a possible for a 10g

Very cool

I got stapps earlier this month but so far they've proved to be a challenge to me for pictures:
