Fry are not notably more herbivorous in the aquarium, but they appear to do better if fed with a diet less strict in crude protein, so I agree in that respect. Wild specimens of this genera, notably, often have gut contents comprised almost entirely of stonefly/mosquito/caddisfly larva, so it's worth mentioning at the very least that they have a meatier bent. Again, I agree that they should be periodically fed vegetable fare, but it's misleading to refer to them as herbivorous. |
