I was considering purchasing one of the aquarium stands sold by Walmart for a 29 gallon tank. Does anyone own this stand type, any comments on its sturdyness etc would be helpful. Tanks alot.

I haven't personally purchased one from them, but i know people and have set up stands from Wal Mart, and the wooden ones seem pretty decent. Just put them together tight and have them on a surface that's as close to perfectly level as you can get, and it should last quite a while.

Just be sure to inspect all the materials when you get them home and if any defects are found, don't use it. 29 gallons of water on the floor along with crud from the fish isn't good!!

I haven't heard of anyone having problems with Wal-Mart stands either. While plenty of people have a tank leak or crack at one time or another, I don't remember ever being told about a problem with someone's stand. If for some reason you're still worried about it, you could always buy one from another place, like a chain store or lfs.

I have the 29-gallon stand (if they are still selling the same one). I love the thing. It's extremely sturdy and it doesn't look half bad either. If you want a cheap, sturdy stand that's the way to go. I have had mine for 3 years and it's still going strong. I will mention that whereever it required wooden dowels, I used a little glue with the dowels for added strength.

Using glue with the dowels is an EASY want to make cheap, prefabricated furniture more sturdy.

I bought one for my 29g and my 20g and they've held up fine. I even went and ordered the 90g stand from the company that manufactures the smaller ones found in walmart. Same design just more of the metal brackets to help reinforce the top and so far no trouble with it. It seems sturdier than my all glass 55g stand.
