I have a 1.5m tank with 6mm glass. After 4 weeks running I had problems with leakages. I removed everything from the tank but I was informed that the size of the glass is to small. Instead, I decided to tear it apart and was thinking of cutting the glass to build a smaller tank. If I use the 6mm glass for the tank and have a 120 X 40 X 40 tank would the 6mm glass be enough to withstand the pressure?

At the moment it is 150 X 50 X 50

Here's a useful chart for glass thickness http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/aquariumdiy/l/blcustomtank.htm According to that 6mm glass is ok for tanks that are 40cm high and up to 8'(244cm) long.

Thanks for the site with regards the size of the tank. This means that my 5ft tank would not have had any problems if it was reduced to 40cm in height. But does the width is effected as well since the chart takes into consideration the length and height?

The length and height of each piece of glass is really the main factor in how much it can withstand. There's a more complicated way to calculated it somewhere on that site but at the fish stores I go to they have tanks up to 2' wide that match that chart for thickness. My 90g which is 18" or 45cm wide also matches the thickness recommended. Maybe if you were building a 3 or 4' wide tank it would matter but otherwise I don't think you need to worry.

What I did in fact was to cut the tank to a 1m and a 0.5m. One has been converted to a Tanganyka and the other planted for angelfish.
