Hey Peeps waddup?

Got some problems here with white spot/Ich

I recently purchased some cardinal tetras for my Rena 15 gal and they got white spot/ich about a week ago now. I went out and purchased Protozin for white spot/ich fungal infection and the instructions say treat the tank with 5ml (1 teespoon) for days 1,2,3 leave 4&5 then again on 6 and it should clear up. I have now done this and NO change whatsoever. Oh and i have been covering my tank with a towel as apparantly according to someone i talked to protozin contains some ingredient that only works in the dark so i have done that as well and noticed a slight change but the fish still have the white spot and now worse still MY BLACK NEON tetras have it as well i seen it yesterday

Rena 15 Gal with one plant been up now for 4 years

Fluval 2+

Tankmates
Cardinal Tetras
Black Neon Tetras
Danios (zebra)
3 Cory Cats (2 pepper + 1 bronze)

Ich, because of its lifecycle sometimes takes a second round of treatment. I'm not familar with that medication (not living in the UK ) but check the directions it should say something about continued treatment, might suggest something along the lines of a water change prior to second round of treatment.

I've had some problems with ich too, and have found anything containing the ingredient "Malachite green" works very well. Also raising the temp. in your tank to about 82 degrees should help. These are just the basics if ich treatment. Try this and if it doesn't work i'm sure some other members of FP can help you out! Good luck!

Thanks for the replys

I was told that protozin contains "Malachite green" but this needs total darkness to work? so i have covered my tank for the past week.

I might try a water change then start a second treatment.

Some meds are reported to be photosensitive, dont' know for sure the active ingredients in yours, in any event, a darkend tank will help reduce stress . Any live plants however may suffer.
