Well, my heater got messed up over the night, and I woke up to all of my fish dead, ecept for 2 angels, a gourami, and 3 clown loaches... the tank water is around 86 degrees now, hopefully it will fall a bit when i get back home.

Since I dont have a heater in the tank now, do you guys think it is a safe bet that I can move these fish to my other tank? I have never had fish get ich, and i dont want them to get it.. so what should I do?

Im not going to buy another heater, because im just going to take this tank down, no use running a tank that only has a few fish in it.

Any opinions on this?

Hi,
After that over heating session, I would recommend leaving
the fish in that tank for a couple of weeks. As to the
need for a new heater... Unless you are going to throw the
tank away, of course you need a new heater. Even more so
with fish still in the tank. The quantity of fish should
never determine the "if" of needing a heater.

If the room that you keep the tank in stays around 76
degrees 24/7, then maybe, you don't need a heater.

Keep the fish by themselves to be sure that there are no
ill effects to the overheating, and then carefully
acclimate them to their new tank.

In the mean time, purchase a quality heater and set it up
in the "old tank."

thanks for the help, my room stays pretty warm, and i dont think they will need a heater, but my main concearn is to put them in my other tank.

I dont wan't to be spending $5 a day running this tank for only having 9 fish in the tank (i had a huge school of neons die, a few clown loaches, BGK, all of my cories, and many more)

I really just want to move the fish, but im so scared of them getting ich from the stress, and then killing the fish in my other tank.

what do you think about replacing the fish that passed with new ones?

the fish seem to be acting normal now, the clowns were chasing each other like they used to do, mainly if i didnt know this happened, i would think nothing was ever wrong.

im going to do a small water change soon

Hi,
One of your remarks kinda threw me... Are you sure you
are spending $5/day on one tank?
I'm running three computers, three transceivers, two
terminal node converters, two receivers,
a 30G aquarium with dual compact flourscent lights and
two timers and I might be running around 2$/day if that.
And that's all in just one room of a 4br home that includes
an office.

You don't mention the size of the tanks that you have.
However, bear in mind that when you add new fish to replace
those you lost, that you will need a set up, running,
cycled, QT tank for the new fish.

That $5 per day how did you calculate that???

The room might be warm during the day but you still will require a heater unless you are running a heated room for some other purpose. My LFS does not run heaters but tanks are in a large heated room.

Ich and stress, as you mentioned you have been keeping fish for 30 years between Frank and myself we would double that saying that we do have a lot of experience and knowledge in fish keeping and are only too pleased to help.
Ich has to be introduced into your tank first if you have not seen any signs of it then it will be imposible for them to get Ich through stress. It can happen if fish are stressed or not in good health and there is a small outbreak in a tank.
With those deaths did that non eating Cl die.

Heating over the last few days we have experienced extreme high temperatures 37C+++
My both tanks we running at about 84-85F for at least 24 hrs and I never lost a fish.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Imvery - 37 Celcius is 99F.

In the summer my tanks tipped off
at 94F, I never lost any fish, not even
my weather loaches.
Must have been very very lucky.

I run a 10g, 5g, 75g, and 25g with filters,
lights, and everything, for about 2 dollars
a day. Im better your single tank will only
be cost you around 50 cents a day, if that.

Anyway, I think keith has some very good advice.
I would keep the fish in the tank for awhile to
recover, before you move them over. The shock
of transfer at this point could kill them.

The angels and clowns probably survived because
in the wild the water in areas they live may reach
86-94F during the summer, sometimes hotter.
