![]() | An Update about Guppy Situation |
So_Very_Sneaky![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3238 Kudos: 2272 Votes: 201 Registered: 10-Mar-2004 ![]() ![]() | I just wanted to leave an update on what the final results of my guppy illness is. I am not sure how many died in total, but it was a whole year's breeding efforts and most of the fry (not all-80% or so, rest were sold), but I have no guppies remaining in my 25g save for a few fry that showed up at the end. I am lucky that I moved 7 females to my 10g a few months before the illness occured, or I would have no guppies left at all. They are happily enjoying life with no males, and many fry around. I think at best estimate I must have lost 150 guppys, mostly juveniles in the 3-9 month old range, though some younger, and a few trios of breeding adults. This disease wiped out all my 4 cherry barbs, and several platys as well, though no more than 6. I just want to post this update in the hope that someone will read it, and learn just how important a Quarantine tank is. It doesnt have to be big, and it only needs an air stones and a sponge filter, but it could save you a wealth of grief. One sick fish brought into your aquarium can cause the same grief it caused me, so please, be kind to your fish you have and quarantine new purchases. It may cost now, but it will save you later. Dont make the same mistake I did....it is just too painful to see young fish that havent even had a chance to live yet, die of a horrible disease you cant prevent or stop. Please, quarantine all new fish. Thank you for listening. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

Some parasites can take up to 3 weeks, not counting those species that are not likely to be in aquaria. In general, I go a minimum of 2 weeks and watch for flashing, which could be a sign of external parasites. Feces need to be watch when looking for internal parasites. Look for white, stringly feces as an indication. |
