My female angel is pale, and gasping for breath at the surface of the water. She looks a little bloated, but she could be full of eggs, which has happened before. She's spawned and all that, so yes, I know it is a she. Her gills look quite red, but that could just be that she's breathing so hard I can see them more than usual. I *thought* I saw clear feces from her, but I'm not sure. Her scales aren't pineconing.

It is a planted 55 gallon, no ammonia or nitrite, ~10 ppm nitrate. No recent chemicals added. I just started feeding a tiny bit of a new food, but it is pretty innocent. It's some Bio-something food from marineland. None of the other fish are showing these same symptoms. Err... let's see... what other questions can I answer so we can get right down to business...Well, she isn't a new fish. On saturday I got a new angel and some guppies, but the new angel isn't harrassing her or anything.

So, what is wrong with her and what can I do?

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

If the new food is pellets they should be soaked to prevent bloat.

I higly doubt it is the pellets. I don't think she has even eaten any of them.

She's now at the bottom, gasping. Help!

Can she maintain her balance in the water, are her scales sticking out like a pinecomb, try a shelled pea and some daphnia to make sure she isn't constipated, red gill usually indicate ammonia burns, are they any parasites on her gills.

Could be anything...

But most likely bacterial. You can try an antibiotic but my guess is it's already too late to combat a fast-acting invasion.

It's quite possible the new fish are either infected, or carriers of a nasty.

I'm not sure what to med, but wish good luck !
