I have two angelfish and my hubby trying to be nice cleaned one of my tank for me. He did not know where to put my African cichlids while cleaning the tank so he put them into the tank with the Angel fish. the Yellow Lab for some reason has taken off almost all of the Angelfish fins. What can I do to grow back the fins?????

Step one: remove african cichlids from angelfish tank, or vice versa You can move the angel to another stocked tank or a quarentine tank.

After that, I would suggest dosing Melafix. But use caution when doing so. The bottle says to dose a certain amount every day for 7 days - dose HALF that amount every other day... this seems to work pretty well. Some people here have had fish die from overdoses of Melafix (or even full bottle-suggested doses), so it's best to err on the side of caution and just do a half dose. The fins will take a few weeks probably to grow back, but it will prevent infection in the torn fins and will help speed up the whole process. A few of my harley rasboras got into a fight and there were a few torn fins - it's taken less than a week for them to grow back using the melafix (I know, Post hoc, ergo propter hoc isn't always true, but the benefits of the type of tree oil used in melafix are pretty well known)

Other than that, just keep the tank clean and stress free

Thank so so much for the information. I will try the meds and the African cichlids have been put back into their tank. Will this also work on the ventral fins?

It should work on all fins, also on bite wounds etc.
