My angel fish appear to have drab appearring skin. Its very dull opposed to how it usually glissens. Also, where their fins meet there sides it looks bloody and red. Kinda like when you look inside a big fishes gills. It may have always been that way, I am not sure If I am just now noticing it or not. Anyone know if this is normal?
3 angesl, 20g established tank, fish are not new to the tank.
any feed back would be appreciated =)
thank!

Test the water for ammonia, nitrites and pH and post back...

I suspect the water quality is not what it should be.

do you dose the tank with a chlorine remover?

If you dont, do you let the water sit for 24 hours to remove the chlorine from it?

The discoloration and the red at the base of the fins points to a bacterial infection, IMO.

Has the skin between the fin rays been deteriorating?

If it can be confirmed that it is a bacterial infection, you will want to treat with a good antibiotic like Maracyn Plus.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

I've read in a number of sources that tetracyline(marycin plus)can be very effective against bacterial infections, but something like 60-90% of fish (or more specificly the bacterias that affect them) are resistant to tetracycline. Would triple sulfa maybe be a better choice??
