However, this one is not mine, I'm merely trying to help out a friend. His fahaka puffer has been developing clusters of red dots on his tail and anal fin, and he cannot figure out the cause nor how to treat them. Pictures and a better description can be found here

Thanks for the help!

It is extremly hard to tell from those photos.

I would guess a fungal problem but, I would take it to a good aquarium or locate a vet that knows fish.

Other that sorry that is the best IO can do.

First off, I'm amazed that they noticed those dots, especially on that type of puffer...

As for what it is, I'd almost bet on it being some type of a fungal presence. The description, location, and presence in such a small area gives me the impression that some type of fungus is more equipped for setting up shop on its fins as opposed to somewhere else on the body. As for how to cure fungus, I honestly don't have any idea. I think there are anti-fungals on the market, but then we have to take into acct whether that person wants to use something such as that or not...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

Not positive that it is a fungus. Could it be caused by an injury the fish may have gotten somehow and that this red is actually blood in the fin do to a damaged vein or veins. I have seen similar type markings on some of my fish after an injury and they have typically cleared up on their own. However that is not a definite and other input is going to be needed.
